Goban For Mac

Boardsurfr Worse than the free version I had used older versions of Goban years ago, so I bought the app for $9.99. That was a big mistake! The free version (3.2) is still available for downloading, and works better than the purchased version. For example, the free version has help that works; the purchased version just goes to a web site that has absolutely NO information.

Worse, the purchased version is completely useless for game analysis. In the free version, you can add variations and marks, which is great; in the purchased version, those items are permanently disabled. The only thing that the purchased version has which is not in the free version is another computer go engine, named “Pachi” (the old version only has GnuGo). Pachi is stronger than GnuGo, so it can be more interesting for stronger players. However, Pachi is not included in the purchase, because it is open source. You need to download and install a (free) extension package to use it.

This was a very disappointing purchase. Why did the developers not even bother to put the help files from the old version on their web site? Save your money and get the download the old, free version instead - it works better! Xddex OK Go app - needs some work to be great I used Goban a while ago when they first were developing the app. It seemed promising then, but doesn’t seem like it’s been updated for years. To me this is just a beta that’s been thrown on the App Store for sale.

I can’t say it really justifies the price at the moment. I hope the devs turn this into a real go platform app. It has the potential for it. The app needs better support for:. Internet go servers.

Maybe integrate with Nova GS (we all know KGS integration is totally out the window). IGS integration is almost an afterthought. Position Variations. Take a page from the SmartGo iPad app, or CGoban, this is a key feature (especially for teaching games). You shouldn’t need to create a variation branch, you should be able to just click an alternate stone placement to trigger a new path. GameCenter integration. Why can’t the app challenge users through GameCenter instead of IGS.

Goformative Login

This would be phenominal. Full Screen. UI re-thinking - It’s hard to get to the game navigation elements, hard to find the go servers, etc With some updates this could be a great app. Even if they released that as a Goban2, I’d happily pay full price again for a real mac-based Go app. Xddex OK Go app - needs some work to be great I used Goban a while ago when they first were developing the app. It seemed promising then, but doesn’t seem like it’s been updated for years.
